UNCW Advances to CAA Semis with 79-65 Win Over Hampton

    WASHINGTON — Bo Montgomery was instrumental in guiding UNC Wilmington to a decisive 79-65 win over Hampton in the quarterfinals of the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament on Sunday night. With this victory, the second-seeded Seahawks, boasting a record of 25-7, advance to face the winner of the game between No. 3 seed Charleston and No. 6 seed Monmouth in the semifinals slated for Monday. The top-seeded Towson will compete against 12th-seeded Delaware in the other semifinal clash scheduled for the same day.

    Montgomery had a standout performance, registering 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Khamari McGriff contributed significantly as well, adding 15 points, six rebounds, and blocking three shots. Another key player, Noah Ross, scored 12 points and secured six rebounds to bolster the team’s efforts.

    For the 10th-seeded Pirates, who conclude their season with a 17-16 record, Noah Farrakhan was the leading scorer with 16 points and four assists. Trevor Smith played a supporting role by adding 12 points to the Pirates’ total.

    The game witnessed UNC Wilmington take control early on, as they grabbed the lead just 17:45 into the first half and maintained it throughout. Montgomery’s 15 points in the initial half were crucial to the Seahawks’ commanding 45-28 lead at halftime. After the break, Ross contributed 10 of his 12 points to help seal the victory for Wilmington.
