LAKE CHARLES, La. — In an exciting first round of the Southland Conference Tournament, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi emerged victorious with a 62-48 win over Houston Christian on Sunday night. Garry Clark was instrumental in this victory, contributing a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, helping the team secure its place in the next round. This win propels the fifth-seeded Islanders, who hold a season record of 20-13, to face off against fourth-seeded Northwestern State on Monday. The outcome of that game will determine who advances to challenge the top-seeded McNeese in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Supporting Garry Clark, Dian Wright-Forde made an impact for the Islanders as well, scoring 13 points and snagging three steals. Jaden Walker also delivered a solid performance, tallying 10 points, nearly perfect from the floor with a 5-for-6 shooting performance, and securing 10 rebounds.
Despite the efforts of Houston Christian, who wrapped up their season at 12-20, the Islanders proved too strong. Julian Mackey was the standout player for the Huskies, posting 17 points. Bryson Dawkins contributed nine points and succeeded in capturing four steals.
