NEW ORLEANS — Kam Williams delivered a stellar performance, scoring 24 points and leading Tulane to an 85-68 victory against UAB, marking the close of the regular season on Sunday. This defeat edged UAB out of a shared second-place position in the American Athletic Conference, leaving them as the third seed for the conference tournament. Tulane had already secured the No. 4 spot. As a result, both teams will move on to participate in the quarterfinals on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.
Williams showcased his shooting prowess for the Green Wave (18-13, 12-6) by hitting 9 of 12 attempts from the field, including an impressive 6 for 8 from beyond the arc. His teammate, Asher Woods, also put on a strong showing by scoring 20 points with an 8 for 10 shooting performance, which included 3 out of 4 successful three-pointers, along with contributing five assists. Kaleb Banks contributed 13 points, shooting 5 for 13 overall and 2 for 8 from long distance, while also adding five rebounds and three blocks to his record.
For the Blazers (20-11, 13-5), Ja’Borri McGhee emerged as the leading scorer with 25 points. Tyren Moore added 14 points and four assists to the team’s efforts. Yaxel Lendeborg also contributed significantly with 13 points along with three blocks.
Williams managed to score 11 points in the first half, with Tulane trailing by a narrow margin of 38-37 going into halftime. However, Tulane significantly surged forward in the second half, utilizing an impressive 11-0 scoring run, which established a 14-point advantage at 67-53 with just over eight minutes remaining, ensuring their victory.
