GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Cincinnati Reds’ promising talent, Cam Collier, is slated for surgery to mend a ligament tear in his left thumb. This procedure, essential for Collier’s recovery, has been planned for Thursday.
Reds’ manager, Terry Francona, shared updates regarding the young infielder’s setback, emphasizing that Collier will be sidelined from batting activities for an estimated 4 to 6 weeks. The injury involves the ulnar collateral ligament of his glove hand, suffered during a matchup with the Chicago Cubs earlier this month on March 2.
Collier, emerging from the 2022 amateur draft as the 18th overall selection, is a standout in the league’s upcoming talent pool. His prowess earned him a spot among baseball’s top 100 prospects by multiple reputable sources. Demonstrating his potential, he posted a .248 average along with 20 home runs and 74 runs batted in during his tenure with Class A team Dayton in the previous season.
This injury presents a temporary hurdle in Collier’s promising career trajectory, but with rest and rehabilitation, the Reds remain optimistic about his return to form.
