Myles Garrett will continue his career in Cleveland, as the Browns have secured him with a groundbreaking four-year contract extension. This new deal establishes Garrett as the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
A source familiar with the contract details revealed that Garrett’s extension comes with $122.8 million guaranteed, an annual salary averaging $40 million, and a total value of $204.8 million. The source requested anonymity since the financial specifics have not been officially disclosed.
The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett had previously requested a trade, but the Browns were determined to retain the 29-year-old star. Garrett’s new contract sets a precedent for other high-performing non-quarterbacks, such as Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons. The Bengals have already indicated their intent to make Chase the highest-paid non-QB in the league.
Selected as a first-round pick in 2017, Garrett tallied 14 sacks and 22 tackles for loss last season. Over his eight-year tenure with the Browns, he has accomplished 102.5 sacks. However, Garrett has only had the chance to participate in three playoff games during his time in Cleveland.
