TRONDHEIM, Norway — Frida Karlsson emerged victorious in the women’s 50-kilometer cross country mass start race on Sunday, concluding a Nordic world championship that saw local favorite Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo of Norway dominate by winning all six of the events he participated in.

Karlsson secured the win, adding to Sweden’s tally of six gold medals at this championship. This triumph marked her first individual world title, complementing the bronze medal she earned at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Additionally, she contributed to Sweden’s success in a relay event earlier in the competition.

The championships witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, with nearly 100,000 fans present as Klaebo achieved a momentous victory in the 50-kilometer mass start freestyle, completing an extraordinary sweep of six gold medals in cross country events at the Nordic worlds on Saturday.

This accomplishment is unprecedented, as no competitor, male or female, had swept all six events since the world championships was expanded to include six races in 2001 for men and 2003 for women.

Adding to the excitement, Slovenian siblings Domen and Nika Prevc both claimed top honors in their respective large hill ski jumping contests.

In the realm of Nordic combined, legendary athlete Jarl Magnus Riiber, who intends to retire at the season’s end, showcased his prowess by earning three gold medals.
