TRONDHEIM, Norway — In an exciting conclusion to this year’s Nordic World Championships, Frida Karlsson emerged victorious in the women’s 50-kilometer mass start cross country race. This victory, achieved on Sunday, secured Sweden its sixth gold medal at the championships and marked Karlsson’s debut individual world title. Previously, she captured a bronze medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics held in Beijing and had contributed to Sweden’s triumph in a relay race earlier in the championship.
In an impressive display of skill, Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo from Norway thrilled the home crowd by claiming victory in each of the six races he entered, including an exceptional win in the 50-kilometer mass start freestyle event. This achievement made Klaebo the first competitor, male or female, to achieve a clean sweep at the world championships in cross country events since they expanded to six races for men in 2001 and women in 2003.
The event also saw Slovenian siblings Domen and Nika Prevc securing titles in their respective large hill ski jumping categories, adding to the weekend’s thrilling performances. Additionally, Jarl Magnus Riiber, renowned in the Nordic combined discipline, celebrated his own success by acquiring three gold medals. Riiber, who has announced his retirement plans upon the season’s end, concluded his championship journey on a high note.
