SAN FRANCISCO — On Saturday night, Stephen Curry celebrated a significant milestone, joining the ranks of elite NBA players by accumulating 25,000 career points. Achieving this during a thrilling 115-110 triumph for the Golden State Warriors over the Detroit Pistons, Curry etched his name as the 26th player in the league to reach such heights.

After the game, Curry exuberantly sprinted down the hallway towards the locker room, echoing “BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!”— a playful nod to his teammate Draymond Green’s signature reaction upon hitting a 3-pointer. It was Green who nailed a pivotal 3-point shot to secure the lead with just 35 seconds remaining. Following the game, Green claimed the ball as a memento for Curry, but Curry humorously noted that Green would hold on to it. “He’s going to keep it for me. I heard he has a little bit of KD’s memorabilia,” Curry remarked, jesting about their former teammate, Kevin Durant.

Curry, who approaches his 37th birthday this coming Friday, crossed his milestone with a 3-pointer at 8:32 in the third quarter. His achievement was met with enthusiastic applause during a timeout about five minutes later. Finishing the game with 32 points, Curry’s career total now stands at 25,017. He impressively converted all 12 of his free throws but noted he wasn’t conscientiously tracking his scoring numbers.

“It was a surprise actually,” Curry admitted post-game, referring to the milestone. He was aware he was nearing the benchmark but didn’t have it top of mind until the announcement. Curry also commented on the rare distinction of achieving such a feat with a single franchise, making it even more meaningful to him. “There’s a list, and only a few guys have done it with one franchise, so that’s pretty special. The names on that list are synonymous with basketball history. It’s pretty cool,” he added.

Looking forward, Curry is poised to break another record by becoming the first player to sink 4,000 3-pointers. With four 3s made on Saturday, he needs only seven more to achieve this goal.

Coach Steve Kerr expressed his admiration, stating, “It’s crazy, crazy. It feels like 25,000 3s actually. It’s dynamite. Just night after night, and tonight was obviously not a great shooting night for him. But I loved that he played through fatigue and a physical defense and got to the line 12 times. He was brilliant on a night when his shot really wasn’t there, he was still brilliant. That’s the mark of a great player.”
