CINCINNATI — In a decisive win for FC Cincinnati, Kévin Denkey netted his second goal of the season in the 73rd minute, while Yuya Kubo scored late to secure a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday night.
Denkey, who made a memorable MLS debut by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory against the New York Red Bulls, successfully converted a penalty kick after Tyrese Spicer from Toronto committed a handball, setting the stage for Cincinnati’s lead.
In the 88th minute, Kubo enhanced the scoreline by finding the net. The goal was a result of a slick team play where Pavel Bucha cleverly back-heeled a pass to Evander. This initiated a series of one-touch passes that culminated in a strategic long chip shot, allowing Kubo to target the corner of the area with a precise finish that found the back post.
Throughout the match, Toronto struggled to gain ground, maintaining only 43% of the possession and being outshot 13-6, with an on-target stat of 8-1. Despite Sean Johnson’s efforts in goal with six saves, Toronto couldn’t find a breakthrough.
Roman Celentano, Cincinnati’s goalkeeper, made one save during the match and achieved his second clean sheet of the season.
