KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly re-signed wide receiver Marquise Brown to a one-year deal potentially worth up to $11 million. The details were shared by an insider familiar with the negotiation process, who spoke on the condition of anonymity since the agreement has not yet been formalized.

Last season, Brown, affectionately known as “Hollywood,” inked a similar short-term contract with hopes of showcasing his skills alongside star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to earn a longer-term contract. Unfortunately, his ambitions were thwarted when he suffered a dislocated shoulder on the very first snap of the preseason, sidelining him until Week 15 of the regular season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Upon his return, Brown participated in two regular-season games, recording nine receptions for 91 yards. He additionally registered five receptions for 50 yards throughout the postseason, contributing to the team’s performance in the playoffs, including a couple of catches during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brown, who is 27, has shown the ability to be a dynamic threat down the field when in good health. However, his career has been marred by frequent injuries, allowing him to complete a full 16-game season only once over his six years in the league.

The Chiefs faced the possibility of losing crucial wide receivers in free agency, including Marquise Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Mecole Hardman, which posed a significant challenge to their wide receiver roster—a unit they’ve been striving to strengthen. Retaining Brown ensures that the Chiefs will have at least one experienced player alongside their younger talents, namely Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, heading into the upcoming season.

Earlier the same day, legal proceedings for Worthy took a turn when a district attorney in Texas decided not to pursue felony domestic violence charges against the player. Following his Friday arrest—stemming from allegations of assault on a family or household member—Worthy was released after jail records showed the charge listed as “dismissed/declined.”

The Chiefs acknowledged the situation involving Worthy and mentioned that they are in the process of collecting further details. In another legal matter, Rashee Rice is dealing with both civil lawsuits and criminal charges. He had admitted to driving a Lamborghini involved in a high-speed accident on a Dallas freeway back in March 2024.
