HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets are dealing with a setback as rookie Reed Sheppard faces a four-week recovery period following a fracture to his right thumb. This development was confirmed by Rockets head coach Ime Udoka in a recent announcement.
The fracture is located on the upper portion of Sheppard’s thumb, a detail described by Udoka as a “better outcome” compared to injuries in other areas of the thumb. Sheppard will be required to wear a splint for approximately four weeks as he heals.
This injury occurred during Houston’s victory against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. The incident took place when Sheppard attempted to block the ball during a foul committed on Zion Williamson.
Though the season is young, the No. 3 overall pick from last year’s draft, Sheppard, has managed to contribute an average of 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. His absence will be felt as the Rockets navigate the first weeks of the NBA season.
