In Zurich, Swiss authorities successfully resolved a kidnapping case involving two dogs with a ransom demand of one million Swiss francs (roughly $1.135 million). The incident occurred when two Bolonka dogs were stolen from the residence of a 59-year-old Schlieren man while he was away. Upon returning, he discovered that his pets were missing and a note had been left demanding a substantial sum in exchange for their safe return.
Refusing to succumb to the ransom demand, the owner opted to alert the local police rather than comply with the extortion. In response, the Zurich police promptly initiated an investigation into the matter. Their efforts bore fruit on Thursday when they apprehended a 30-year-old Norwegian suspect at Zurich Airport, who is believed to have been heavily involved in the abduction.
The investigation spanned international borders, leading the authorities to Poland, where they, in collaboration with their European counterparts, arrested a 38-year-old suspect. It was in Poland that the police also discovered the missing Bolonka dogs, ensuring their safe return to their owner by Friday. The dogs, belonging to a Russian toy breed, are known to be quite valuable, fetching up to several thousand dollars.
With the Norwegian suspect currently held in Swiss custody, Polish authorities continue to examine the 38-year-old’s involvement in the crime. Both Swiss and Polish forces remain committed to pursuing justice in this transnational case.
