In Mönchengladbach, Germany, Mainz strengthened their campaign for a spot in the upcoming season’s Champions League by securing a solid 3-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, propelling them into third place in the Bundesliga standings.

The visitors gained the lead just before the break when Paul Nebel’s shot, taking a fortunate deflection, left Mönchengladbach’s goalkeeper, Jonas Omlin, helpless.

Mainz extended their advantage shortly after the interval. Only six minutes into the second half, Dominik Kohr pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area, expertly finding the back of the net to double Mainz’s tally.

The home side managed to mount a response when Stefan Lainer scored with less than 20 minutes remaining in the match, reigniting hope for Mönchengladbach. However, Nadiem Amiri quickly dashed their comeback aspirations by restoring Mainz’s two-goal lead just four minutes later.

This victory not only cemented Mainz’s impressive form, as they remain unbeaten against Mönchengladbach in nine successive league encounters, but it also places them on track for a historic Bundesliga finish surpassing their fifth-place achievement back in 2012.

As of now, Mönchengladbach finds itself in eighth position in the league.
