HAMBURG, Germany — Hamburger SV proudly announced the overwhelming demand for tickets as they have reached a groundbreaking milestone, selling a record 57,000 tickets for the upcoming German Cup semifinal. This much-anticipated match, scheduled against their nearby rival Werder Bremen, will be hosted at Hamburg’s iconic Volksparkstadion and has now officially sold out.
This much-acclaimed sellout is not just a significant event for Hamburg; it also marks a remarkable achievement for women’s soccer across Germany. The club emphasizes the event as a profound testament to the city’s dedication to fostering girls’ and women’s soccer, as well as unwavering support for the local club. “It’s more than a sold-out soccer match,” remarked Eric Huwer, a board member of Hamburg, highlighting the broader cultural and sporting significance for the city and the sport.
Previously, the women’s soccer team of Hamburger SV had seen its largest crowd turnout during a district derby against St. Pauli, which attracted 19,710 spectators last September. This new record further exceeds Germany’s previous record attendance for a women’s soccer match, set at the 2023 German Cup final in Cologne, where 44,808 fans gathered to watch Wolfsburg face Freiburg.
The upcoming game will not only write history for women’s soccer in Hamburger SV but also serve as an inspirational beacon in the broader landscape of women’s sports, showcasing the growing enthusiasm and support for female athletes in Germany.
