BATON ROUGE, La. — In a thrilling contest on Thursday night, Antonio Madlock’s exceptional performance guided Alabama State to a narrow 66-65 victory against Southern. Madlock was instrumental, scoring 24 points and securing nine rebounds, significantly contributing to the Hornets’ overall success that evening. This victory brought Alabama State to a balanced season record of 15-15, with an 11-6 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Assisting Madlock, Micah Octave delivered an impactful game by scoring 11 points. His shooting accuracy was notable as he went 4 of 8 from the field, including an impressive 3 for 6 from three-point territory. Octave further supported the team’s efforts by grabbing six rebounds. Amarr Knox also made a valuable contribution with nine points, hitting 3 out of 8 shots, including two successful three-point attempts.

On the other side, Southern’s offensive charge was led by Michael Jacobs, who stood out with an impressive 27-point performance. This effort positioned him as the Jaguars’ leading scorer, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to secure a win. Supporting Jacobs, Jordan Johnson added 12 points and made two steals, while Derrick Tezeno contributed nine points to Southern’s tally. Despite their strong efforts, the Jaguars fell just short, marking their season with a 19-11 record and a 14-3 standing in the conference.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to conclude their regular season on Saturday. Alabama State is scheduled to face Grambling, while Southern will play against Alabama A&M, hosting the latter on their home court. These games will mark the final chances for both teams to adjust their standings before the postseason events begin.
