In a commanding performance at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Thursday, Murray State clinched a decisive 74-53 victory over Evansville, led by Terence Harcum’s standout contribution of 31 points.
The win propels the Racers into the quarterfinals, where they will face the No. 2 seed, Bradley.
Harcum was near-perfect in his execution, hitting 10 of 11 shots from the field, an impressive 7 out of 7 from the three-point line, and maintaining precision with a 4 for 4 performance at the free-throw line for the Racers, now sporting a 16-16 record.
Complementing Harcum’s efforts was Kylen Milton, who contributed 14 points on a 4 for 7 shooting, including 4 for 6 from beyond the arc, while also collecting six rebounds.
Nick Ellington added eight points with his 4 of 8 shooting from the field, despite missing all three attempts from the free-throw line, and pulled down nine rebounds.
Tayshawn Comer led Evansville with 22 points and four assists, while teammate Connor Turnbull chipped in 16 points alongside three blocks for the Purple Aces, whose season ends at 11-21.
Joshua Hughes also contributed five points with nine rebounds.
From the start, Murray State took an early lead after the first four minutes of play and never relinquished it.
By halftime, the Racers held a 35-29 advantage, largely thanks to Harcum’s 13 first-half points.
Building on their first-half success, Murray State outpaced Evansville by an additional 15 points in the latter half, anchored by Harcum’s energized 18-point second-half showing, solidifying their advancement with a convincing win.
