In Nashville, Tennessee, the Tennessee Titans have finalized the adjustments to their coaching staff with some key additions. Former head coach of the Chargers, Mike McCoy, has been appointed as a senior offensive assistant under the leadership of Titans coach Brian Callahan. This announcement was made public by the Titans on Thursday. Alongside this, Callahan has brought in Dylan Autenrieth as a defensive assistant and promoted Scott Cohen to the role of director of football strategy.
Mike McCoy, well-known for his previous role as the head coach of the then-San Diego Chargers from 2013 to 2016, has garnered considerable experience as an NFL offensive coordinator over six seasons. Most recently, he was the quarterbacks coach for Jacksonville over the past three years. His wealth of experience is expected to be invaluable for Callahan, who has just completed his inaugural season as a head coach and will be navigating the duties of calling offensive plays in the NFL for the first time. This marks McCoy’s 23rd year working professionally in the NFL. His career commenced in Carolina in 2000, lasting until 2008, followed by his tenure in Denver starting in 2009, where he stayed on as the offensive coordinator for four years. This included three years working alongside Callahan. McCoy later returned to Denver in 2017 and subsequently took on the role of offensive coordinator with Arizona in 2018.
Dylan Autenrieth comes to the Titans after spending a three-year stint at Vanderbilt, where he ascended from a graduate assistant position to assistant offensive line coach. Prior to this, he was a graduate assistant at Colorado State in 2021 and served as an offensive analyst at his alma mater, N.C. State, in 2020, where he also played tight end for the Wolfpack.
The team’s strategy division will now be led by Scott Cohen, who was promoted to director of football strategy. Cohen comes with an impressive 33-year background in the NFL and was initially brought into the Titans’ organization last year for the purpose of analyzing opponents. In his enhanced role, Cohen will develop strategies to aid the coaching staff during the season by focusing on game management, situational play, self-scouting, and advanced opponent reports. Additionally, he will collaborate with the personnel department during the offseason to manage free agency and draft considerations. Cohen’s extensive professional journey includes working with Baltimore, Tampa Bay, the New York Jets, Philadelphia, and Jacksonville. His career in the NFL began in 1992, starting with Washington’s scouting department.
