LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Athletics have appointed Marc Badain as their new president, replacing Dave Kaval who stepped down on December 27. Sandy Dean, who has been leading efforts for the approval and construction of a new stadium in Las Vegas, had temporarily filled the role.
Marc Badain expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Athletics, stating, “I’m honored to join the Athletics and help guide the team into a new era of success.” Badain emphasized that Las Vegas thrives on innovation and excellence and is eager to collaborate with the team, fans, and the broader community to create something remarkable.
Following their departure from Oakland at the conclusion of the 2024 season, the Athletics will play temporarily at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento, California, for at least three seasons. Their aim is to inaugurate their new Las Vegas stadium for the 2028 season.
Badain brings valuable expertise from his previous role with the Raiders, where he was instrumental in their 2020 relocation to Las Vegas. He served with the Raiders for three decades before resigning in July 2021. More recently, Badain was associated with the Oak View Group Las Vegas — Arena and Entertainment, engaged in developing an arena that could potentially host an NBA expansion team.
John Fisher, the managing partner of the Athletics, commented on Badain’s appointment, stating, “His vast experience, particularly his work on the opening of Allegiant Stadium and overseeing the Raiders’ move to Las Vegas, makes him a great addition to our team at this pivotal moment.”
