LOS ANGELES — Tutu Atwell, a wide receiver, has committed to staying with the Los Angeles Rams for another year, having agreed to a $10 million deal. This information was confirmed by an individual familiar with the terms, who requested anonymity as the Rams were in the final stages of solidifying Atwell’s contract for a somewhat unexpected fifth season.
Atwell, originally drafted by the Rams from Louisville in the 2021 second round, has gathered 99 receptions, 1,343 yards, and scored four touchdowns throughout his four-year tenure with the team. In the previous season, despite participating in only 39% of the Rams’ offensive plays, he reached a personal best with 42 catches resulting in 562 yards.
In 2023, Atwell started 14 games, but securing steady playing time among the Rams’ leading trio of receivers has been challenging, despite his reliable performance when healthy. Although there was no public complaint regarding his playing time under coach Sean McVay, it was anticipated that Atwell might explore free agency in search of more opportunities to play elsewhere.
Contrary to these expectations, Atwell has opted to remain, adding stability to the roster alongside Puka Nacua. This decision coincides with the Rams’ likely departure from longtime standout receiver Cooper Kupp. General Manager Les Snead recently indicated that the team is in the process of trading or releasing Kupp, the MVP of Super Bowl 56.
Additionally, the Rams have made adjustments to their team, including the release of cornerback Tre Tomlinson, who did not participate in games last season.
