MILWAUKEE — In an impressive display, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 32 points, surpassing the 20,000 career point milestone, while Damian Lillard contributed 34 points and Kevin Porter Jr. achieved a triple-double as the Milwaukee Bucks decisively defeated the undermanned Dallas Mavericks 137-107 on Wednesday night.
The 30-year-old Antetokounmpo, now with 20,010 career points, joins a prestigious group as the 52nd player ever to reach this scoring feat. Noteworthy players who achieved this milestone at a younger age include LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, and Michael Jordan.
Despite playing just under 25 minutes, Antetokounmpo also grabbed 15 rebounds, helping the Bucks secure their eighth win in nine games. Meanwhile, Porter, coming off the bench, tallied 10 points, 11 rebounds, and matched his career-high with 14 assists in 26 minutes. His previous triple-doubles occurred in March 2022 and March 2023 with the Houston Rockets.
Klay Thompson was the standout performer for the Mavericks, scoring 28 points. Dallas was significantly impacted by the absence of key players, including Kyrie Irving, who recently suffered a torn ACL.
Game Takeaways:
For the Mavericks, having only eight players available diminished their competitive chances. The Bucks, on the other hand, benefitted from having played the prior night and were able to rest Antetokounmpo and Lillard for the entire fourth quarter. With Bobby Portis serving his 25-game suspension, the Bucks have shown remarkable resilience, going 7-1 since his absence began. Before his suspension, they were 2-5 in games he had missed.
Pivotal Moment:
The Bucks overcame an early 19-18 deficit just over seven minutes into the game with an 18-3 run. Lillard played a key role, scoring eight points during this period and punctuating the stretch with a jumper late in the first quarter.
Key Statistic:
Milwaukee achieved both their highest point tally and most commanding win margin of this season.
Upcoming Games:
The Mavericks will face the Memphis Grizzlies at home on Friday, while the Bucks are set to host the Orlando Magic on Saturday.
