MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Authorities from Peel Regional Police are conducting an investigation into a report of a sexual assault that allegedly took place in 2014, involving eight former players of the Ontario Hockey League.

The allegations first came to light in October through a report by TSN/CTV. On Wednesday, officials confirmed that their special victims unit is actively pursuing the investigation.

The initial report from 2014 indicates that the complainant, who was then 22 years old, was romantically involved with a 19-year-old player from the Mississauga Steelheads. It is claimed that in November of that year, she visited the player’s residence to watch television, encountering eight team members upon arrival.

According to the TSN/CTV coverage, the incident allegedly unfolded when she and the player she was dating were in a basement bathroom. It is reported that the other players subsequently entered the confined space and subjected her to a sequence of assaults over a span of 90 minutes.

As the investigation remains ongoing, none of the players involved have been publicly identified, and these allegations yet to be adjudicated in a court of law.

The Ontario Hockey League has expressed that it is treating these allegations with utmost seriousness and has pledged full cooperation with any investigative proceedings by law enforcement. Meanwhile, it should be noted that the Mississauga Steelheads franchise has since relocated to Brampton as of June.
