Dent’s 33 leads New Mexico past Nevada for MWC title

    In Reno, Nevada, Donovan Dent emerged as the key player for New Mexico, scoring 33 points to drive the Lobos to a 71-67 victory over Nevada on Tuesday night. This win guarantees at least a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship for New Mexico and secures them the No. 1 seed for the upcoming league tournament.

    Dent was instrumental in the Lobos’ triumph, also contributing seven assists to their success. The team, standing at 24-6 overall with a 16-3 conference record, is set to play one more game at home against UNLV. New Mexico has maintained a solid performance, having already defeated second-place Colorado State (15-4).

    Supporting Dent’s stellar performance, Nelly Junior Joseph contributed nine points for New Mexico. His efforts included shooting 3 of 8 from the field and succeeding 3 of 4 from the free-throw line, alongside securing 15 rebounds. Mustapha Amzil added eight points, making 2 out of 9 field goal attempts and scoring 2 out of 4 free throws, alongside knocking down 2 of 6 shots from beyond the arc.

    On the Nevada side, Nick Davidson led with 15 points and collected seven rebounds for the Wolf Pack, who now stand at 16-14 overall and 8-11 in the conference. Kobe Sanders had an impactful game too, contributing 15 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks. Additionally, Tyler Rolison scored 12 points and provided six assists.

    Looking ahead, Nevada is scheduled to visit San Diego State on Saturday in their upcoming matchup.
