Georgetown edges Villanova 75-73 with Epps’ winning shot

    WASHINGTON — In a thrilling showdown, Georgetown emerged victorious against Villanova on Tuesday, with Jayden Epps leading the charge by scoring 20 points, including the decisive layup in the final five seconds, sealing a 75-73 win for the Hoyas.

    The team benefitted from Epps’ solid performance, as he made 6 of 12 shots, went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc, and was flawless from the free-throw line, hitting 5 out of 5. Georgetown, now holding a 17-13 record (8-11 in the Big East Conference), also saw strong performances from Micah Peavy, who notched 19 points and pulled down five rebounds. Jordan Burks contributed significantly by scoring 14 points, making 5 of 9 shots from the field, including 2 for 4 from three-point range, and adding six rebounds.
    Villanova, with a 18-13 record (11-9 in the conference), was led by Eric Dixon, who poured in 24 points for the Wildcats. Jordan Longino also had an impactful game, adding 17 points and dishing out four assists, while Jhamir Brickus contributed 10 points along with seven assists.
    Looking ahead, Georgetown is set to visit DePaul for their regular-season finale this coming Saturday. Meanwhile, Villanova is preparing to compete in the upcoming Big East Tournament.
