FORT WORTH, Texas — In a gripping match on Tuesday night, Norchad Omier powered Baylor past TCU with a stellar display, scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Joining the charge was VJ Edgecombe, who added 18 points to seal a 61-58 victory for the visitors.
Robert Wright III added a valuable 11 points to Baylor’s tally. On TCU’s side, Noah Reynolds led with 16 points, 13 of which came in the opening half, while reserve player Trazarien White contributed 11 points.
The climax came in the final moments when the teams were tied at 58. Wright’s drive to the basket against Vasean Allette resulted in Allette’s fifth foul with only two seconds left. Wright remained calm and sank both of his free throws. In their haste, TCU, out of timeouts, attempted a long inbound pass but failed, losing possession. As Baylor prepared to inbound, TCU’s David Punch fouled Omier, who managed to hit 1 of 2 from the line, finalizing the score at 61-58. Baylor didn’t manage a final shot before the buzzer sounded.
Baylor’s triumph moved them to an 18-12 overall record and 10-9 in the conference, slightly ahead of TCU, who stood at 16-14 overall, 9-10 in the conference. The win marked Baylor’s fifth consecutive victory at TCU, keeping them in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament spot.
Edgecombe’s crucial jumper extended Baylor’s lead to 56-45 late in the game, though TCU launched a comeback attempt soon after. Initially, Baylor sped to a 16-8 advantage in just over seven minutes of play. A 3-pointer by Edgecombe extended Baylor’s edge to 28-20, but TCU retaliated with a 15-5 run, briefly taking a 35-33 lead on a White jumper just before halftime, which saw the teams enter the break tied.
This clash marked the 900th men’s basketball game at Schollmaier Arena, which opened in 1961 as Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Baylor is set to conclude their regular season by hosting third-ranked Houston on Saturday, while TCU will travel to Colorado for their final regular season game.
