DETROIT — Jordan Martinook contributed a goal and an assist, helping the Carolina Hurricanes secure a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.

Joining Martinook on the score sheet for Carolina was Jordan Staal, as the team recorded its third win in their last four games. Frederik Andersen was solid between the pipes, deterring 24 attempts on goal.

The Red Wings, now struggling with three consecutive losses and five out of their last seven games, were playing their first match since Saturday’s 5-3 defeat against Columbus. Elmer Soderblom managed to net one for Detroit midway through the third period, but that was all the scoring they could muster against Andersen’s formidable defense and the well-organized Hurricanes.

In goal for the Red Wings, Alex Lyon put up a fight with 28 saves during the match.

Martinook broke the scoring for the Hurricanes by slipping a backhander from the slot at 1:01 before the conclusion of the first period, marking his 11th goal of the season.

Observations from the match include Andersen’s standout performance which elevated his record to 7-5-0 over 12 appearances this season.

For Detroit, the game marked a break in their scoring streak, having consistently put up at least two goals in each of their preceding 13 games.

A pivotal moment came early in the second period when Staal successfully executed a wraparound goal just 1:29 in, adding his 12th mark on the scoresheet for the season.

Statistically, Carolina’s away performance is now 13-15-3, while Detroit’s home figures fell to 16-14-3.

Looking ahead, the Hurricanes will host Boston in Raleigh as they embark on a four-game homestand on Thursday night. Meanwhile, Detroit will prepare to take on Utah at home the same evening.
