In a remarkable demonstration of offensive prowess, George Mason University’s baseball team shattered a long-standing NCAA Division I record by scoring an unprecedented 23 runs in a single inning.

The Patriots achieved this extraordinary feat during the second inning of their game against Holy Cross, culminating in a commanding 26-6 victory on their home field. This record-breaking event surpassed the previous inning record of 21 runs, a milestone first set by Penn in 1983 and later equaled by Wichita State in 1984 and Valparaiso in 2010.

During this phenomenal inning, George Mason sent a staggering 28 batters up to the plate. Despite Holy Cross securing the first out, they struggled to contain the Patriots’ relentless offense as the next 19 players reached base. The inning saw George Mason amass 11 hits along with an impressive tally of eight walks and five hit batters. Among the standout performances was that of freshman catcher Andrew Raymond, who contributed with a double, drew a walk, drove in three runs, and crossed home plate three times himself.

Holy Cross’s pitching staff faced a challenging task trying to contain the Patriots, utilizing five different pitchers throughout the inning. Unfortunately, two of those pitchers were unable to make an out against the relentless George Mason lineup. This incredible inning will undoubtedly go down in history as a spectacular demonstration of hitting and perseverance on the part of George Mason’s baseball team.
