COLUMBIA, S.C. — In an exciting clash on Tuesday night, Silas Demary Jr. led Georgia to a 73-64 victory over South Carolina, contributing significantly with 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Blue Cain supported Georgia’s triumph by adding 14 points to the scoreboard.
From the outset, Georgia established dominance by scoring the initial six points and maintaining their lead for the remainder of the game. South Carolina, fighting to catch up, got within two points at 49-47 when Nick Pringle converted a three-point play with 9:24 remaining in the second half. Nevertheless, the Gamecocks struggled offensively and didn’t secure another field goal until only 2:50 was left on the clock.
In a critical moment, South Carolina’s forward, Collin Murray-Boyles, missed two free throws with just 52.3 seconds to go, a chance that could have trimmed the margin to four points. Taking advantage of this, Dylan James executed a three-point play, widening Georgia’s lead to 69-60.
Freshman Asa Newell added to Georgia’s success with 11 points despite a challenging 3-of-10 shooting night. This victory adds another win against the Gamecocks, having previously defeated them 71-60 earlier in the season on January 28.
For South Carolina, Murray-Boyles shone with 24 points, largely due to his impressive 13-of-18 performance at the free-throw line, while Pringle added 11 points to the team’s efforts.
Demary, recently recognized for his standout performance throughout the past week, dominated as the leading scorer in the first half with 10 points, propelling Georgia to a 40-29 halftime lead. Meanwhile, Cain, known for his sharp shooting from beyond the arc, made crucial back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the second half, pushing Georgia’s lead to 57-47.
Looking ahead, Georgia concludes their regular season at home against Vanderbilt on Saturday. Meanwhile, South Carolina faces a formidable challenge as they head to No. 4 Tennessee for their upcoming game.
