In a significant development, Rimas Sports, an agency partly owned by the well-known Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, has announced the addition of San Diego Padres’ star player Fernando Tatis Jr. to their management roster. The announcement, made on Tuesday, details Rimas Sports’ plans to manage Tatis’ marketing and brand relations while also aiding in the expansion of his presence as an athlete, businessman, and philanthropist.
Back in 2021, Tatis and the Padres reached a staggering 14-year, $340 million deal facilitated by Dan Lozano’s MVP Sports agency. This new venture with Rimas Sports marks a shift in his off-field management strategy.
Rimas Sports is led by Bad Bunny in collaboration with executives Noah Assad and Jonathan Miranda. The agency claims representation of notable Major League Baseball (MLB) players, including Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves, Ezequiel Tovar of the Colorado Rockies, and Francisco Alvarez of the New York Mets.
Controversy, however, shadows the agency as the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) previously revoked the agent certification of Rimas’ representative William Arroyo. Certification was also denied for Assad and Miranda due to issues stemming from a $200,000 interest-free loan and a $19,500 gift. This led to a steep fine of $400,000 against the agency for misconduct.
In a ruling last October, arbitrator Ruth M. Moscovitch maintained the five-year suspensions of Assad and Miranda, while William Arroyo’s suspension term was reduced to three years. Currently, U.S. District Judge Jennifer H. Rearden in Manhattan has set a deadline of February 18 for Assad, Miranda, and Arroyo to respond to a motion confirming these decisions, yet so far, no response has been submitted.
