DENTON, Texas — North Texas secured a narrow 68-66 victory over Wichita State on Monday night, extending their winning streak to six games. Leading the charge was Atin Wright, who netted 21 points, showcasing his prowess on the court with a 7-for-13 shooting performance, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, and hitting 3 of 4 from the charity stripe for the Mean Green. Brenen Lorient contributed 15 points, and Latrell Jossell added 13 to the effort.
On the opposite end, the Shockers, who now hold a record of 17-12 and 7-9 in the conference, were led by Xavier Bell’s 19 points. Harlond Beverly supported with an added 16 points, while Bijan Cortes chipped in with nine. At halftime, North Texas had a slim lead, with the score standing at 31-28, thanks in part to Jossell’s 10 points in the opening half.
The game saw a dramatic turnaround in the second half, where a crucial 9-0 run by North Texas overcame a four-point shortfall, putting them ahead 52-47 with just over nine minutes left to play. Wright played a significant role in the second half, contributing 14 points to the final tally.
North Texas, trailing just one game behind the 16th-ranked Memphis in the conference standings, will conclude their regular season by hosting Charlotte on Thursday before hitting the road to face Temple on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wichita State, currently tied for seventh place with Temple, will travel to Rice for a Thursday matchup and then host Tulsa on Sunday.
