The Tennessee Titans are undertaking an extensive revamp of their team lineup while simultaneously constructing a new enclosed stadium, aiming for both endeavors to progress smoothly. Holding the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft scheduled for April 24 comes after the Titans concluded their 2024 season with a 3-14 record, marking their third consecutive losing season and losing their final six games. The groundbreaking for Nissan Stadium occurred on February 29, 2024, and media tours on Monday showcased significant progress on the three-year construction project.

The Titans plan for the stadium’s completion by February 2027, ensuring ample time for relocation from their current facility for the 2027 NFL season. This timeline has been affirmed by Kellen DeCoursey, the project manager for the Titans’ new venue, emphasizing confidence in meeting the scheduled deadline. The stadium construction has secured a notable $1.2 billion in state and local bonds, recognized as the largest public funding contribution for an NFL stadium, all while maintaining the same Nissan naming rights since 2015.

The new stadium occupies former parking areas between Interstate 24 and the existing stadium. Nashville is organizing a task force to secure events such as a Super Bowl, a Final Four, and a variety of concerts. Currently, dual work shifts have completed the framework with pre-fabricated concrete seating decks already positioned in the west end zone, closest to the old facility.

Combining concrete and steel, the enclosed design of the new stadium is set to protect against weather-related issues, a problematic hallmark of the current open-air stadium, inaugurated in 1999. The new facility will feature a translucent roof similar in design to those at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Supported by a cable-suspension system, the structure will reach a height of 235 feet, exceeding the current stadium’s tallest light standards by 80 feet.

Roof cable installation is slated to commence in September, with aspirations to have it fully erected by May 2026. Following the new stadium’s completion, attention will shift to repurposing equipment from the current facility, estimated to take six weeks before demolition starts in March 2027, with demolition finishing by September.

Layout modifications include the new field orientation, aligning east to west rather than the present north-south layout. A unique feature of the new stadium is a fans’ mosh pit in the east end zone near Interstate 24, which has already sold out. Furthermore, the west end zone will boast a grand window overlooking Nashville’s Lower Broad honky tonk district, enhancing views across the Cumberland River post-demolition of the existing complex. To prevent glare issues from hindering gameplay, blackout curtains are planned as part of the design.
