BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pittsburgh Pirates added to their bullpen by claiming right-handed pitcher Justin Lawrence off waivers from the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
Lawrence, a 30-year-old pitcher, has compiled a record of 12-12 with an ERA of 5.43 over 182 appearances with the Rockies since he began his MLB career in 2021.
In the 2023 season, Lawrence had career-high statistics, achieving 11 saves, participating in 69 games, and pitching 75 innings, during which he held a 4-7 record and an ERA of 3.72.
To accommodate Lawrence on their 40-man roster, the Pirates placed pitcher Johan Oviedo on the 60-day injured list.
Oviedo is dealing with a recovery process due to a right elbow injury and a strain in his right lat.
