WASHINGTON — The Washington Wizards have locked in forward Justin Champagnie with a multi-year contract, solidifying his place on the team.
The Wizards made the announcement on Monday, marking a significant development one year after Champagnie initially joined the team on a two-way contract. Since his addition to the roster, he has consistently contributed to the team’s efforts. Over 55 games, Champagnie has managed to average 7.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game, showcasing his growth and potential on the court.
This season has seen Champagnie elevate his game even further. In the 40 games he has appeared in, including 15 as a starter, the 23-year-old has set career highs with averages of 7.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, his shooting has reached new heights, with a field-goal percentage of 50.4% and a 3-point shooting percentage of 37.6%.
In addition to his improvements in regular season play, Champagnie was recognized for his talent and potential by being selected to participate in the G League Up Next Game. This event was part of the NBA’s All-Star weekend festivities last month, which highlights emerging talent in the league.
In a related move, the Wizards have released forward Jalen McDaniels, who was on a 10-day contract with the team. This decision aligns with the team’s strategic adjustments as they focus on enhancing their roster ahead of critical upcoming games.
