BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — At the Oscars, celebrities certainly turned heads. When the awards concluded, glamorous after-parties became the stage for showcasing daring fashion choices that left little to the imagination. The surge of “naked fashion” was notably visible at high-profile gatherings like the Vanity Fair party, where many guests opted for ensembles embracing the mantra that sometimes, less is truly more.

Among those embracing this daring trend was actor and director Olivia Wilde, who arrived in a sheer, intricately embroidered lace negligee by Chloé, featuring metal embellishments and exquisitely detailed lingerie elements. Wilde’s choice exuded a subtle bohemian allure, elegantly pushing the boundaries of bold fashion. Meanwhile, Julia Fox made a bolder statement, gracing the event in a barely-there wrap dress that strategically utilized hair extensions as its primary embellishment.

Entertainer Doja Cat took the Oscars stage during a James Bond segment to perform “Diamonds Are Forever,” adorned in what appeared to be a costume of sheer diamonds. Later, she continued the theme by donning a custom Balmain strapless gown with elaborate fringes for the Vanity Fair gala. This masterpiece was said to be the result of 3,450 hours of meticulous work by 39 artisans. Inspired by an Oscar statue, the gown celebrated the female form beneath meticulously arranged glass beads spanning nine shades of gold.

Kendall Jenner’s attire also captivated onlookers with a striking vintage Mugler piece from 1992, crafted from intricate black lace made of rubber. Leslie Bibb, known for her role in “White Lotus,” encapsulated the night’s essence with her choice of a glimmering nude-sparkle look, further accentuating the “naked” theme gripping the fashion scene.

Is this trend a newfound sensation? Not quite, according to InStyle Fashion’s features director Madeline Hirsch. She explained that the fascination with naked fashion has been intertwined with runway shows and red carpet moments for several years. “In 2025, sheer lace emerges as the strongest embodiment of this trend, particularly given that bohemian styles are making a victorious comeback,” Hirsch remarked, highlighting that these bold expressions often appear prominently at after-party events.

Following the Oscars ceremony, these gatherings serve as a canvas for creativity with relaxed dressing styles. “While some guests maintain more traditional attire, many find the after-parties to be a setting to unwind and experiment with daring fashion statements,” Hirsch commented. “The atmosphere tends to be more informal than the main event, lending itself well to the next-to-naked theme.”

However, not everyone is on board with this revealing trend. Melissa Rivers, daughter of the legendary Joan Rivers and habitual fashion commentator, shared her critical perspective. “This is anything but a new trend. Naked fashion seems to resurface periodically, as if expecting to make a splash every few years,” she expressed. “But this year’s version? It was exceptionally poor. Frankly, I’m exhausted by it. Entirely and utterly exhausted!”
