UTSA defeats Rice 84-56

    SAN ANTONIO — In an impressive display on Sunday, Marcus Millender led the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) to an 84-56 victory over Rice, scoring 25 points.
    Millender was a pivotal player for the Roadrunners (11-17, 5-11 AAC), contributing not only in points but also adding seven assists.
    Primo Spears matched him with 25 points of his own, shooting 9 for 16 overall, including an impressive 6 for 9 from beyond the arc, while also making 1 out of 3 free-throw attempts.
    Jonnivius Smith played a key supporting role, scoring 15 points while shooting 4 of 8 from the field and making 2 of 3 from three-point territory. He was also effective from the foul line, converting 5 out of 6 opportunities.
    This victory marked the end of a challenging six-game losing streak for the Roadrunners.

    Caden Powell was the top performer for the Owls (13-17, 4-13), scoring 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
    Andrew Akuchie also contributed 10 points to Rice’s effort, while Trae Broadnax added eight points.

    UTSA seized the lead shortly before halftime, with just over three minutes on the clock, and maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the game.
    During the halftime break, the Roadrunners were leading 31-23, with Millender having scored 10 points by that time.
    In the second half, Spears took the helm, scoring 19 points to drive UTSA to a dominant victory, outpacing Rice by 20 points in the later period.
