MILAN — Bologna’s hopes of securing a spot in the Champions League were bolstered with a 2-1 victory over Cagliari in Serie A, largely thanks to Riccardo Orsolini’s two decisive goals.
Bologna managed to stage a comeback against the struggling Cagliari, moving them within a narrow two-point gap from the fourth spot, currently held by Juventus.

Bologna and Lazio are now neck and neck on points, but Lazio is set to face the struggling AC Milan later on Sunday. Meanwhile, Roma will play against Como. At the halftime whistle, Cagliari surprisingly led the game thanks to Roberto Piccoli’s header in the 22nd minute.

In response to the team lagging behind, Bologna’s coach, Vincenzo Italiano, opted to make three strategic substitutions in the second half. This move paid off almost immediately when Orsolini successfully netted a penalty. The penalty was awarded after Nicolò Cambiaghi, one of the substitutes, was brought down by Cagliari’s Mattia Felici.

Cambiaghi further contributed to the win by assisting Orsolini for his second goal, sealing the victory just eight minutes after the equalizer. Meanwhile, Cagliari is still precariously perched above the relegation zone, with only a three-point cushion to spare.

Elsewhere, Empoli, who recently delivered a shocking Italian Cup upset to Juventus, ended in a 1-1 stalemate at Genoa, keeping them within the bottom three, just a point shy of safety. In another match, Torino secured a comfortable 2-0 win against Monza, the league’s last-placed team.
