In Tokyo, under the vibrant backdrop of nearly flawless spring weather, Ethiopian athletes Tadese Takele and Sutume Asefa Kebede clinched victories in their respective categories at the Tokyo Marathon.
Tadese Takele achieved a monumental win in the men’s division, crossing the finish line with a personal best time of 2 hours, 3 minutes, and 23 seconds. Fellow Ethiopian Deresa Geleta followed closely to take second place with a time of 2:03:51, while Kenya’s Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich secured third with a timing of 2:04:00.
On the women’s side, Sutume Asefa Kebede showcased an outstanding performance, leading the race from start to finish and claiming her second consecutive Tokyo Marathon victory. Kebede completed the race in 2:16:31, and was pursued by Kenya’s Winfridah Moraa Moseti who finished in 2:16:56. Ethiopia’s Hawi Feysa achieved third place with a time of 2:17:00.
In the domestic competition, Tubasa Ichiyama emerged as the top Japanese competitor in the men’s marathon, concluding the race in 10th place with a time of 2:06:00. On the women’s side, Yuka Ando was the leading Japanese runner, also finishing 10th, with a commendable time of 2:23:37.
