RALEIGH, N.C. — In a thrilling match Saturday night, the Edmonton Oilers emerged victorious against the Carolina Hurricanes with a 3-1 scoreline. Key contributions came from Adam Henrique and Corey Perry, who netted goals to secure the win.

Connor McDavid added an additional empty-net goal, while goalie Calvin Pickard was instrumental with 35 saves, helping the Oilers end their five-game losing streak and marking their first triumph since February 5.

On the Hurricanes side, Sebastian Aho managed to score, with Frederik Andersen making 28 saves despite the team’s ongoing struggles. This game marked the seventh defeat in eight games for Carolina.

The action began with Henrique putting the Oilers ahead 1-0 in the first period with a short-handed goal at 5:08. Andersen was able to stop an initial attempt from Mattias Janmark, but the rebound deflected off Henrique into the net.

Perry doubled the Oilers’ lead with 4:31 remaining in the second period, finishing a centering pass from Leon Draisaitl. Carolina’s Aho answered with a power-play goal 4:26 into the final period.

From the Oilers’ perspective, their sense of urgency was clearly evident, breaking their losing streak on the road, which came after the league’s 4 Nations Face-Off break. This victory marks their first success in Raleigh since February 16, 2020. While Draisaitl’s goal streak concluded at seven games, he extended his points streak to 11 games with this assist.

For the Hurricanes, unreliable goaltending remains a sticking point as they inch closer to the playoffs. Andersen, who has dropped his last four starts, will need to elevate his performances to aid his team’s postseason aspirations.

A significant moment of the night came when the Hurricanes missed all three power-play opportunities in the first period, ultimately conceding a short-handed goal to Henrique.

Statistically, Carolina’s power-play struggles continued as they have managed only three goals in their last 25 attempts over the past ten games.

Looking ahead, the Oilers are set to face Anaheim at home on Tuesday, while the Hurricanes will host Calgary on Sunday.
