On Saturday, numerous Microsoft 365 users encountered difficulties with services, most notably Outlook. The tech giant, through posts on social media platform X, communicated its efforts in probing the disruptions that affected multiple Microsoft 365 functionalities.
Microsoft revealed it had potentially pinpointed the root cause of the problem. It immediately rolled back the suspect piece of code in an attempt to mitigate the disruption. A dedicated company page that deals with such unexpected incidents mentioned this development in its posts. By the afternoon, Microsoft shared updates indicating a positive trend, noting that “a majority of impacted services are recovering following our change.”
During the outage, several users took to social media platforms to express their frustration, particularly over being unable to access their Outlook email accounts. Downdetector, a site that records outage reports, showed a high volume of complaints with reports peaking around 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Fortunately, reports of problems began to decrease later as some users regained access.
This incident followed a similar scenario earlier in the week, where Slack, a prominent communications platform, suffered an outage causing trouble for its own extensive user base.
