Arizona Diamondbacks’ versatile player Blaze Alexander is set to be sidelined for several weeks due to a strain in his right oblique muscle, casting uncertainty over his readiness for the opening day.

Manager Torey Lovullo shared with the media on Friday that Alexander’s absence is anticipated to last “weeks not days.”

The 25-year-old player entered this year’s spring training as a contender for a backup role on the team after posting a .247 batting average, along with three home runs and 21 RBIs across 61 games last season. During the previous year, Alexander made the team out of spring training but alternated between the majors and Triple-A Reno.
