AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University has announced a significant contract extension for Athletic Director Jamie Pollard, who will remain in his role through 2030. Pollard has been a driving force behind the University’s athletic success since he started in 2005. This announcement comes at a time when Iowa State’s sports teams are experiencing unparalleled triumphs.
The school’s major sports teams have thrived in the 2024-25 season. The football team marked its first-ever 11-win season, a notable achievement heralding a new era of success. Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team enjoyed an exceptional season, maintaining a presence in the top ten nationwide and reaching its highest ranking since the late 1950s when it claimed the third spot last December.
Although the exact terms of Pollard’s new contract are yet to be disclosed, his accomplishments and relentless efforts in the program were highly praised. Pollard expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the support he received from the university administration. “It has been a privilege to lead our athletics program over the past two decades,” stated Pollard. “Our impassioned coaches and dedicated staff have helped foster an incredible culture. Despite the transformative changes occurring in our industry, I am optimistic that our department will confront these challenges with the same vigor and determination that have been the hallmark of our past successes.”
Overseeing $340 million in new constructions and renovations under his tenure, Pollard stands as the third-longest-serving Power Four athletic director in the country. His leadership has ensured that, since the 2011-12 season, ISU has maintained impressive attendance figures across its key sports. Excluding the pandemic-affected 2020-21 season, Iowa State consistently draws average crowds of over 50,000 for football, 12,000 for men’s basketball, and 9,000 for women’s basketball.
