LAKELAND, Fla. — The Detroit Tigers will be starting the season without their versatile player, Matt Vierling, as he has been placed on the injured list. On Friday, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch announced that Vierling, who plays multiple positions, is being sidelined due to a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder.
During his time with the Tigers, Vierling has primarily played in the outfield; however, in 2024, he also contributed at third base and second base. The 28-year-old athlete achieved personal bests last season with 16 home runs and 57 RBIs across 144 games. He was set to open the season as the right fielder.
Currently, there is no definitive timeline for Vierling’s return. Hinch did express doubt about Vierling being ready for the season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 27.
