BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Scot Loeffler, the head coach of Bowling Green, is stepping down after an impressive six-season stint with the Falcons to accept the position of quarterbacks coach with the Philadelphia Eagles, as announced by the university on Friday.
During his tenure, Loeffler amassed a 27-41 record but was instrumental in guiding the team to two consecutive winning seasons in 2023 and 2024, including appearances in three straight bowl games. The search for Loeffler’s successor is now underway.
Derek van der Merwe, Bowling Green’s athletic director, praised Loeffler’s contributions, stating, “Over the past six seasons, Scot has successfully built a strong program, tackling the challenges faced in collegiate sports. He also ensured that his players and coaching staff upheld the values and mission that define our great university.”
Loeffler’s hiring by the Eagles follows the promotion of Kevin Patullo to offensive coordinator after Kellen Moore left to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
Throughout his coaching journey, Loeffler has held key roles at various programs, including Michigan, Central Michigan, Florida, Temple, Auburn, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. He also has NFL experience, having spent a year coaching the quarterbacks for the Detroit Lions.
His impressive roster of mentees includes eight quarterbacks who transitioned to the NFL, such as Tom Brady, Tim Tebow, Brian Griese, Chad Henne, Drew Henson, John Navarre, Logan Thomas, and Anthony Brown. Collectively, these quarterbacks have achieved a notable 10 Super Bowl titles between them.
