NEW YORK — Malachi Davis scored 17 points, propelling Long Island University to a 60-47 victory over Wagner on Thursday evening. With this win, the Sharks have secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference tournament.
Davis was an effective shooter for the Sharks, hitting 6 out of 10 shots overall, albeit 1 for 5 from beyond the three-point line, while going a perfect 4 for 4 at the free-throw line. Jamal Fuller contributed significantly with 13 points, making 3 of 8 field goals and excelling at the charity stripe by converting 7 of 9 free throws. Blake Lander also added 13 points, successfully making 5 of 9 shots and sinking 3 of 5 attempts from three-point range.
On the Seahawks’ side, Zae Blake was the top scorer with 14 points. Tyje Kelton played a supporting role, adding 10 points and achieving two steals. R.J. Greene contributed as well, finishing with nine points for Wagner.
Both teams wrap up their regular-season contests on Saturday. Long Island University is set to face Fairleigh Dickinson on the road, while Wagner prepares to host Central Connecticut State at their home arena.
