CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Virginia campus experienced a significant incident Thursday when a suspect was involved in a stabbing event, leading to their subsequent arrest. Local authorities confirmed that following the incident, one individual was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police officers on the Charlottesville campus were alerted to the stabbing, prompting them to issue an emergency notification after the suspect reportedly fled on foot. Subsequently, a male suspect was apprehended, allowing officials to lift the previously issued shelter-in-place directive. Reports indicated that the arrest was conducted smoothly without any resistance.

Following the incident, one individual was hospitalized at the UVa Health University Medical Center. University officials reported that the victim remained in critical condition by the evening of the event, though details about the victim’s specific injuries were not disclosed.

Officials identified the suspect as a middle-aged white male, adding that neither the suspect nor the victim had any apparent connections with the university. This detail was provided by university spokesperson Bethanie Glover, who confirmed that the attack is being investigated by the Charlottesville police as it occurred within the city’s boundaries.

This week marked the second instance of a shelter-in-place order at the university. Earlier on Tuesday, authorities engaged in a manhunt for a suspect who had evaded a traffic stop and managed to escape the vicinity shortly afterward.
