SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Diamondbacks’ pitching roster took a hit as manager Torey Lovullo announced two of their right-handed pitchers, Thyago Vieira and Josh Winder, will require Tommy John surgery.
Both Vieira and Winder were considered strong contenders for bullpen positions this season. Vieira had a noteworthy performance last season, appearing in 11 games for the Diamondbacks. He achieved a solid 2.87 ERA, successfully striking out 14 batters over 15 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old pitcher debuted in the major leagues in 2017 and has since played in 53 games across five different teams.
Josh Winder, 28, has pitched for the Minnesota Twins over parts of the past three seasons. In 2024, he managed a 3.00 ERA over four appearances. The loss of both pitchers presents a challenge for the Diamondbacks as they look to bolster their bullpen moving forward.
