BOLOGNA, Italy — AC Milan suffered a disappointing setback as they failed to hold on to their first-half lead, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Bologna in a rescheduled Serie A fixture on Thursday. This loss adds to the mounting troubles for Milan following their recent exit from the Champions League and a defeat against Torino last weekend.
Milan’s position in the league has taken a hit as they have slipped to eighth place, while Bologna climbed to sixth place after their victory. The Milan side had initially taken the lead through a goal by Rafael Leao. However, Bologna responded after halftime when Santiago Castro capitalized on a bounce from a free kick inside the box to equalize the score.
The pivotal moment came eight minutes before the final whistle when Dan Ndoye exploited Milan’s defensive lapses, directing a cross into the net to secure the win for Bologna. This triumph marked the first occasion since 2002 that Bologna emerged victorious against Milan at home in a league match.
This contest had been postponed from its original October schedule due to severe flooding in the Emilia-Romagna region. Half of the proceeds from this match were dedicated to supporting the flood victims affected by the natural disaster.
