INDIANAPOLIS — The NFL has announced an unprecedented increase to its salary cap, setting it at $279.2 million for the year 2025. This change reflects a significant rise of $23.8 million from previous figures.
The announcement was made on Thursday during the ongoing NFL scouting combine, where team representatives gathered to learn about new league developments.
Since 2018, the salary cap has seen a substantial growth of $102 million. For comparison, in 1994—the inaugural year of the NFL salary cap—the cap was set at $34.608 million. This demonstrates the league’s expansive financial landscape over the years.
As part of total player costs, which encompass various benefits, projections anticipate these costs to reach $362.48 million.
All NFL teams are required to ensure they remain within the salary cap limits by the deadline of 4 p.m. ET on March 12.
