In a pulsating Big East matchup on Wednesday evening, UConn triumphed over Georgetown with a 93-79 victory in Hartford. Contributing significantly to UConn’s success were Tarris Reed Jr. and Solo Ball, both delivering 20 points. Reed also added depth with 10 rebounds, complementing his impressive 8-of-10 shooting performance.
The Huskies, boasting a 19-9 overall record and 11-6 in the Big East, saw contributions from Liam McNeeley, who put up 17 points, Hassan Diarra added 14, and Alex Karaban chipped in with 13. UConn’s offensive display was highlighted by a 56% shooting accuracy, successful execution of 9 out of 24 three-point attempts, and an impressive 90% conversion rate from the free-throw line.
On the other side, Georgetown’s Micah Perry stood out by scoring 25 points with a 10-of-16 shooting performance. Jayden Epps, Drew Fielder, and Jordan Burks added to the efforts with 13 and 11 points respectively. Despite Georgetown’s commendable 52% shooting and converting 11 of 27 from beyond the arc, their effort fell short in the rebounding department, where they were outrebounded 35-18. A decisive factor in the game was UConn’s 30-2 advantage in second-chance points.
The turning point came late in the first half when the Huskies embarked on a critical 10-0 run, securing a lead they maintained throughout. Halftime saw UConn leading 42-35, which they solidified in the second half with a formidable 17-7 run, establishing a 13-point cushion with nine minutes left. Although Georgetown momentarily shaved the lead back to nine, Karaban’s crucial three-pointer and jumper expanded it to an 18-point lead in the closing moments.
Looking ahead, UConn is set to face Providence in their upcoming encounter, while Georgetown will take on the challenge at No. 21 Marquette on Saturday.
