COLUMBIA, Mo. — On Wednesday, Missouri’s head coach, Robin Pingeton, announced she will resign at the conclusion of the current season. Her decision comes as her team is tied for last place in the Southeastern Conference.

Under Pingeton’s leadership, the Tigers have experienced their ups and downs. Currently, the team holds a 13-16 record overall and a 2-12 record in SEC play, heading towards their second consecutive losing season and sixth straight in conference play.

Over her 15-year tenure with Missouri, Pingeton achieved a record of 249-216. One of the highlights of her career was the electrifying 70-69 overtime victory against the then top-ranked South Carolina on December 30, 2021. Furthermore, she guided the Tigers to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2016 to 2019.

Athletic director Laird Veatch commended Pingeton for her commitment to the team, praising her leadership, character, and unwavering dedication to her players.

As the Tigers face their upcoming game against Arkansas on Thursday, they are on a three-game losing streak. Reflecting on her decision, Pingeton expressed the need for a new direction for the Mizzou Women’s Basketball team.

“After much contemplation, I’ve concluded that it’s time for a fresh voice to lead the team,” Pingeton stated. She acknowledged the support from the athletic director, Laird Veatch, and extended her gratitude to the Columbia community for the longstanding support her family and program have received. Looking ahead, she mentioned, “This marks the end of this chapter, and I am excited for what lies ahead.”
