In Milan, an inventive jazz club served as the backdrop for the latest runway show by Marni’s creative director, Francesco Risso. During the Milano Fashion Week previews for Fall-Winter 2025-2026, Risso’s stylish ensemble included famous friends, such as Tracee Ellis Ross, who took to the runway wearing the collection.
This unique collection was inspired by Risso’s month-long collaboration in London with Nigerian artists Slawn and Soldier. Driven by a passion for the creative process, Risso immersed himself back into painting alongside these artists, leading to artworks that are now showcased in the designs.
“Our hands were dancing together, literally,” Risso expressed backstage, highlighting the harmonious nature of their collaboration.
Risso’s vision for this collection centers around an ambitious theme with sculptural elements, which he describes as a “seed vault” for future designs. This collection presents an exploration of striking motifs and exaggerated forms.
The pieces feature oversized floral prints adorning suits, with long stems gracefully extending from asymmetrically cut jackets. An eye-catching bumblebee-themed sweater showcases the playful and whimsical side of knitwear. Additionally, wool coats present a dramatic silhouette as they puff out like natural cocoons.
Risso conveyed the symbolic importance of the collection, stating, “It’s time for reflection. It’s time to preserve.” Through these designs, Risso invites both introspection and a commitment to safeguarding artistic innovation for future endeavors.
